Target Audience

Overview
The curriculum consists of nine modules specific to care of children facing life-threatening illness and their families. The principle goal of the training program is to provide pediatric healthcare providers with information on pediatric palliative and hospice care and resources to integrate this content into their clinical education. Course content will be presented in several participatory formats including lecture, open forum discussion, small group activities, and training sessions.

Objectives
  1. Describe the philosophy and principles of hospice and palliative care that can be integrated across settings to affect quality pediatric care.
  2. Summarize three aspects of excellent ongoing communication with the interdisciplinary team, the child, and the family throughout palliative care.
  3. Describe pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies used to relieve pain and symptoms for patients receiving palliative/EOL care.
  4. Participants will name at least one thing they have learned from or about the interdisciplinary process in caring for a pediatric patient receiving palliative care or hospice.

Registration

The registration fee is $350 and includes registration materials, breakfast, lunch, breaks, and syllabus materials.

The conference will be held in the Abramson Research building on the main campus of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
