Kate Ramey is a neonatal nurse practitioner and perinatal palliative care nurse practitioner in the Division of Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She was actively involved in the creation and development of the perinatal palliative care program at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital. She provides palliative care through assistance with complex decision-making support, symptom management, and end-of-life care. She follows pregnant persons expecting infants with complex or life-limiting conditions longitudinally from diagnosis through pregnancy and delivery, and infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit. She has also created an educational program teaching primary palliative care skills to bedside nurses called NICU Nuggets; she is a trainer for the pediatric ELNEC (End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium) course; and she leads a systemwide Advanced Practice Provider peer support program which focuses on mitigating compassion fatigue and burn-out in the healthcare field.
