Overview
Neonates with congenital birth defects needing surgery require very specialized care. Understanding the unique needs of these babies is imperative throughout the perioperative period. Advances in prenatal diagnosis and treatment have allowed us to plan and anticipate the needs of these very specialized patients before and after birth. This two-day conference will provide continuing education on exciting and innovative care of the surgical neonate from prenatal diagnosis to postnatal management. The presentations will address topics spanning from the initial stabilization and transport of a complex surgical infant to current evidence-based management techniques and discussion of staff and family education in preparation for discharge home. The conference is directed toward nurses, advanced practice nurses and other medical staff who care for this neonatal surgical population.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify physical examination findings and understand treatment modalities for neonates with anorectal malformations
  2. Discuss bone health considerations in vulnerable infants
  3. Describe neonatal cardiac disease processes and management
  4. Understand between various genetic and physical examination findings for neonates with Beckwith-Wiedemann spectrum

Registration
The symposium will be held at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Leonard and Madlyn Abramson Pediatric Research Center. The two-day registration fee is $225. The registration fee includes continental breakfast, breaks, lunch and course materials.

Accreditation
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education to physicians.
