Overview

This course provides 2 hours of continuing education (CE) on the topic of child abuse recognition and reporting for LICENSE RENEWAL ONLY. This 2-hour training is designed to educate mandated reporters in Pennsylvania on recognizing and responding to child abuse and neglect. Participants will begin by gaining an understanding of the Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law (CPSL), including legal definitions, categories of abuse, and the responsibilities of mandated reporters. Mandated Reporters under Act 31 include but are not limited to individuals in health-related professions licensed or certified by the Pennsylvania Department of State (e.g., nurses, physicians, psychologists, pharmacists, etc.).

After completing the course, you will be directed to a form where you will input this information. Certificates of attendance will be issued to all professionals who complete the requirements of the course (attestation and evaluation).

Objectives
  1. Understand the structure, purpose, and referral/investigation process of the Child Welfare System in Pennsylvania.
  2. Describe the role of mandated reporters, including recognizing signs of abuse/neglect and understanding the referral process.
  3. Identify risk factors, clinical indicators, and potential biases that influence reporting of abuse or neglect.
  4. Explain trauma-informed care in clinical practice and recognize opportunities for early intervention and prevention.
