Overview

Reiki Level 1 training post-conference for those registered for the Brain-Gut Axis: Aligning the Mind, Body and Spirit towards Health and Wellness conference.  Reiki can help decrease perceptions of pain, increase calmness, and promote restful sleep. The Integrative Health Team is excited to offer Reiki Level One Training that will enable you to practice Reiki upon program completion. All healthcare providers are welcome to take the course.

The course includes 5 hours of a hands-on, experiential class, and 2 hours of pre-work comprised of four brief e-Learning modules. There is a Participant Guide that learners will reflect in throughout the pre-learning and bring to class.

Designation of Credit

Physicians: Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses: This program provides 7.0 ANCC contact hours.

Outcomes

  • 90% of Learners will be able to describe the use of energy therapy and the benefits to potential recipients.

Objectives
  1. Define and describe Energy Therapy and the Reiki style system.
  2. Identify the benefits of energy therapy to potential recipients, including the importance of self-care.
  3. Connect Reiki, a mind-body modality, as a complementary modality to traditional healthcare.
  4. Demonstrate the practical skills necessary to provide safe and effective Reiki treatments.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Introduction to Integrative Health
In this first module, learners are provided with an introduction to Integrative Health at CHOP, a review of the Human Energy Field and Healthcare, and an overview of the Reiki Level One Training Program. A Participant Guide that will be used throughout the program is provided as a downloadable PDF that can be printed or filled out digitally.

Learners will define and describe energy therapy, identify the benefits of energy therapy to potential recipients, and consider some potential misunderstandings and barriers to offering energy therapy in the hospital setting.

Specifically focusing on Reiki, this learning experience features a deeper dive into the history, levels, and pillars of Reiki. Additionally, learners will review when it is appropriate to offer Reiki in a hospital setting.

Reiki Techniques

Moving past theory and into practice, this module offers highly interactive introductions to Byosen Scanning, Kenyoku, and Reiki Hand Positions for self-treatment and treatment of others. Learners will be asked to apply what they’ve learned to a patient case scenario in preparation for the instructor-led training.
