Updates in Pediatric Obesity Management

Updates in pediatric obesity management, including lifestyle, medical, and surgical management for children of all ages. This will be geared towards primary care providers or others with an interest in providing care for this population. Experts in pediatric obesity medicine will discuss recent AAP guidelines, weight stigma and how to mitigate, diagnosis and treatment of fatty liver disease, endocrine complications of obesity, behavioral approach to management, evidence-based nutrition and exercise guidance, use of weight loss medications, and latest evidence and guidelines on Bariatric surgery in adolescents.

1. Review 2023 AAP guidelines for identification and treatment of pediatric obesity
2. Understand weight bias and harm, and how to minimize in clinical practice
3. Review motivational interviewing and behavioral approach to weight management
4. Review endocrine and metabolic complications of obesity and cost-effective monitoring and management
5. Learn about new anti-obesity pharmacotherapy including when to use, short and long term side effects, and monitoring
6. Review current concepts in Metabolic Associated Liver Steatosis, monitoring and treatment
7. Learn guidelines, process, and potential risks/benefits of metabolic bariatric surgery in pediatrics
