Add to Calendar Developmental and Behavioral Health for the Pediatric Patient: A Focus on Autism 9/21/2021 7:00:00 AM 9/21/2021 4:00:00 PM America/New_York false MM/DD/YYYY

Date & Location
Tuesday, September 21, 2021, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Philadelphia, PA

Overview

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in March 2018, parent-reported information from the 2016 National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH) showed that one of six U.S. children aged 2 to 8 years had a diagnosed mental, behavioral or developmental disorder. About one in 59 children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) according to estimates from the CDC’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network. The month of April is Autism Awareness Month. This year’s conference will focus on research and clinical pearls related to autism spectrum disorders, though many of the resources shared will be applicable to patients presenting with a variety of developmental or behavioral problems:
•  The ACEs (adverse childhood experiences) – can childhood experiences disguise themselves as disabilities?
•  Functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and their application to Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and behavioral support planning
•  Current research and implementation of evidence-based practices in applied settings in autism – an overview of local efforts
•  Autism and its relation to Gastroenterology
•  Transition planning for individuals with autism and disabilities
•  Self-advocacy in autism – a discussion with national speaker, best-selling author, consultant and autism advocate Kerry Magro, EdD, CAS

Each lecture will include evidence-based treatments, support management and resource suggestions, with the goal of providing attendees the most current best practices and practical tips for caring for patients with autism spectrum disorder.

Objectives
  1. Participants will identify common developmental and behavioral health symptoms that can present in pediatric patients.
  2. Participants will identify common medical and mental health conditions that can occur with developmental or behavioral disorders and understand how they may impact the child’s function.
  3. Participants will identify resources that can be utilized in the office or shared with families to address developmental, behavioral or mental health concerns in children.

Accreditation
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education to physicians.
