Overview
This course is designed to provide a solid foundation in current diabetes management. Topics to be reviewed will include: treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes; self-care management principles; understanding and using diabetes technology (insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring systems) to improve outcomes; the emotional impact of diabetes diagnosis on families and developmental milestones; and how to engage with children and families living with diabetes.

Objectives
  1. Describe current practice guidelines for treating type 1 and type 2 diabetes and optimizing health outcomes for children.
  2. Demonstrate a basic understanding of how technology (insulin pumps, closed loop systems and continuous glucose monitoring systems) can be used to improve diabetes outcomes.
  3. Demonstrate familiarity with how to use diabetes technology to manage children with diabetes.
  4. Describe how nutrition impacts diabetes management.
  5. Describe the emotional impact of diabetes diagnosis on families and how to support parents and children living with diabetes.

Registration

FEE: $125

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to any unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation or postponement, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia will refund any registration fees, less a $40 service fee, but is not responsible for any related costs, charges or expenses to participants, including cancellation charges assessed by hotels, airlines or travel agencies. In order to process refunds for course withdrawals, cancellations must be received in writing by Monday, Oct. 5, 2020. No refunds will be issued thereafter.

CONTINUING NURSING EDUCATION APPROVED PROVIDER STATEMENT

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This conference will provide a maximum of 5.75 continuing nursing education contact hours.
