Overview

This one-day conference for hearing healthcare professionals will address the importance of family-centered care and collaboration across medical and educational providers. Presenters in child development, behavioral psychology and family advocacy will share research, best practice guidelines and outcomes of children with hearing loss. Case studies highlighting how audiologists can foster collaborative care will also be discussed.

Objectives
  1. Define family-centered care and its relation to families of children with hearing loss.
  2. List three (3) indicators of a developmental disability and identify when to refer for an evaluation.
  3. Identify three (3) stakeholders when forming interdisciplinary teams for children with hearing loss.
  4. Describe two (2) strategies to use with patients who choose not to use their voice during appointments
  5. List five (5) signs of pediatric anxiety disorders and identify when to refer for an evaluation.
  6. Describe how family-centered care improves longitudinal outcomes of children with hearing loss.

Registration

General Information

The conference will be held in the Ruth and Tristram Colket, Jr. Translational Research Building on the Raymond G. Perelman Campus of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2019.

Course Fees

The registration fee of $140 (professionals) or $100 (full-time students) includes breakfast, lunch, parking and program materials.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to any unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation or postponement, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia will refund any registration fees, less a $25 service fee, but is not responsible for any related costs, charges or expenses to participants, including cancellation charges assessed by hotels, airlines or travel agencies. In order to process refunds for course withdrawals, cancellations must be received in writing by Friday, March 1, 2019. No refunds will be issued thereafter.

Accreditation

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is approved by the American Academy of Audiology to offer Academy CEUs for this activity. The program is worth a maximum of .70 CEUs. Academy approval of this continuing education activity is based on course content only and does not imply endorsement of course content, specific products or clinical procedure, or adherence of the event to the Academy’s Code of Ethics. Any views that are presented are those of the presenter/CE Provider and not necessarily of the American Academy of Audiology. The Continuing Education activity represents .70 Tier 1 continuing education hours toward the American Board of Audiology®  recertification requirements.

        This course is offered for .70 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate level, Professional area).

 This program is approved by the International Hearing Society and its educational committee, the International Institute for Hearing Instruments Studies. This course has also been approved by the International Institute for Hearing Instruments Studies for .70 CEUs.

A block of rooms has been reserved at reduced rates at Sheraton Philadelphia University City, 3549 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA, which is located just a few blocks from Children’s Hospital. The group overnight room rate is $172 single and double occupancy plus a 16.37 percent room tax. Participants are required to make their own hotel reservations by calling the hotel directly at 215-387-8000. Please mention the name of the conference when making your reservation. The special room rate will be available until February 8, 2019. After that date, reservations will be accepted on a space and rate availability basis.
