Overview

Feeding and swallowing problems are common and complex in children with autism spectrum disorders. Without appropriate treatment, these disorders can have lasting effects on a child’s physical and emotional development. Invited experts and faculty from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) will discuss a variety of interdisciplinary treatment approaches as well as the implications of these disorders are left untreated.

Registration Fee: $250

The registration fee includes registration materials, continental breakfast, lunch, breaks and parking. As part of our green initiative, syllabus material will be available online.


Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Discuss the nutritional implications of restricted diets commonly seen in children with autism
  2. Recognize the challenges and obstacles faced by families, caregivers and providers
  3. Identify specific interventions to treat common feeding problems in children with autism

Accreditation

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education to physicians.

AMA Credit Designation Statement

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Continuing Nursing Education Approved Provider Statement

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Dietitians

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered Dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 6 hours continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this course. Application submitted and pending approval.

Social Work

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is a pre approved provider of continuing education credits for Pennsylvania Licensed Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors. Participants licensed in Pennsylvania who attend the full workshop and complete the required evaluation are eligible for 6 Continuing Education Credits. Participants licensed in other states should check with local licensing boards to determine continuing education approval.

Occupational Therapy

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is an approved provider of continuing education by the American Occupational Therapy Association Inc. Six contact hours or .8 AOTA CEUs will be awarded to participants at the completion of the program. Assignment of AOTA CEUs does not imply endorsement of specific course content, products or clinical procedures by AOTA. Approved Provider Number: 4878.

Psychology

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This conference is approved to provide 6 credits for APA.

Hotel Information

A block of rooms has been reserved at reduced rates at the Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel, located within walking distance of Children’s Hospital.

The group rate is $172 single and double occupancy plus a room tax. Participants are required to make their own hotel reservations by calling the hotel directly at 215-387-8000. Please mention the name of this conference when making your reservation. The special room rate will be available until Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018. After that date, reservations will be accepted according to space and rate availability.
