Overview

This one-day conference for hearing healthcare professionals will address audiologic and medical candidacy, assessment, and management of implantable hearing technology in the pediatric population.  Presenters will share research, best practice guidelines, and outcomes of patients who utilize cochlear implants, bone conduction hearing devices, and auditory brainstem implants, as well as patients who utilize bimodal hearing technologies. Case studies highlighting different implantable devices and patient technology journeys will also be discussed.


Objectives
  1. Compare audiologic and medical candidacy for percutaneous bone conduction device and passive transcutaneous magnet bone conduction device.
  2. List three areas of expanded cochlear implantation criteria in the pediatric population.
  3. Describe the function of auditory brainstem implant in comparison to cochlear implant and three pediatric patient profiles for candidacy.
  4. Compare early literacy skill development of children with normal hearing to children who use cochlear implants.
  5. Define bimodal technology and describe four challenges in the audiologic management of this patient population.

Registration

General Information

The conference will be held in the Ruth and Tristram Colket, Jr. Translational Research Building on the Raymond G. Perelman Campus of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017.

Course Fee

The registration fee of $140 (Professionals) or $100 (Full-time students) includes breakfast, lunch and program materials.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to any unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation or postponement, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia will refund any registration fees, less a $25 service fee, but is not responsible for any related costs, charges or expenses to participants, including cancellation charges assessed by hotels, airlines or travel agencies. In order to process refunds for course withdrawals, cancellations must be received in writing by Friday, Feb. 24, 2017. No refunds will be issued thereafter.


Accreditation

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is approved by the American Academy of Audiology to offer Academy CEUs for this activity. The program is worth a maximum of .65 CEUs. Academy approval of this continuing education activity is based on course content only and does not imply endorsement of course content, specific products or clinical procedure, or adherence of the event to the Academy’s Code of Ethics. Any views that are presented are those of the presenter/CE Provider and not necessarily of the American Academy of Audiology. The Continuing Education activity represents .65 Tier 1 continuing education hours toward the American Board of Audiology® recertification requirements.

A block of rooms has been reserved at reduced rates at Sheraton Philadelphia University City (sheraton.com/UniversityCity), which is located just a few blocks from Children’s Hospital. The group overnight room rate is $172 single and double occupancy plus a 15.5 percent room tax. Participants are required to make their own hotel reservations by calling the hotel directly at 215-387-8000. Please mention the name of the conference when making your reservation. The special room rate will be available until Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017. After that date, reservations will be accepted on a space and rate availability basis.
