13th Biennial International 22q11.2 Scientific Conference

A scientific retreat in its purist form, the meeting will kick-off in the early morning on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, and adjourn following our closing dinner on Thursday, July 18, 2024. To take full advantage of the outstanding scientific and social program, it is best to plan arrive on Monday at the latest and depart on Friday at the earliest.

Don’t miss this very special opportunity to share and learn with colleagues and friends old and new traveling from around the globe to one of the most beautiful settings in the world – the spectacular beaches of Obidos Portugal – 90 minutes northwest of Lisbon International Airport and just 18 km from the famous Obidos Castle. For those requiring ground transportation, arrangements have been made for individual bookings with details to be communicated shortly.

Please remember to pack your dancing shoes, perhaps an instrument, your best singing voice, and party attire featuring any combination of black, white, or silver - because our closing dinner is going to be EPIC!

Dr.Ralda Nehme, Director of the Stem Cell Program at The Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT to present “The 22q11.2 region as it regulates presynaptic gene-products linked to schizophrenia.”

Prof. Dr. Randall J Platt, Professur Biologisches Engineering at ETH Zurich to present “Novel genetic tools for investigating brain and behavior in 22q11.2 deletion syndrome.”

Prof. Beverly Emanuel, Professor of Pediatrics and Genetics and Charles E.H. Upham Endowed Chair in Pediatric Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania to present “Looking Back to Move Forward – the Sweep of History Regarding the Chromosome 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome.”

Dr.  Casey Gifford, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Genetics at Stanford University to present “Genetic Modifiers of Cardiac Development with an Emphasis on 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome.”

Dr. Irene Zohn, Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Physiology at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences to present “Model organisms and Mechanisms of gene-environment interactions in structural birth defects.”

Dr. Stephen Scherer, Northbridge Chair in Paediatric Research and Director of The Centre for Applied Genomics at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto to present the Peter Scambler Invited Lecture, “Genetics of CNVs informing human disorders and the prospects for treatment.”

Dr. Joris Vermeesch, Professor of Cytogenetics and Genome Research at KU Leuven to present “Cell free DNA and the Promise of Novel Biomarkers.”

Dr. Michael Granato, Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania to present “Mitochondrial proteins and neurodevelopment in 22q11.2 deletion syndrome.”

HOTEL ACCOMODATIONS
A block of rooms at reduced rates have been reserved at Praia D'El Rey Marriott Golf & Beach Resort, Obidos, Portugal. All room rates subject to applicable taxes and fees.

Please note that meeting rates are on a first come first serve basis and cannot be guaranteed after April 15, 2024 – so please remember to book your rooms early.

Room rates are 270 Euro for Single room accommodation and 290 Euro for double room accommodation based on Run of House (ROH) room allocation. The room rates are in Euro, per per room, per night and includes Buffet Breakfast at the restaurant, service, and taxes.

Each Guest will be responsible for the accommodation costs and will be required a credit card as a reservation guarantee when they are booking by the specific reservation link. 90 days before the Event, we will charge 1 night and the remaining costs of the stay, will be charged at the check-out with all incidentals.

Please also note that the contracted room rates are available three days prior and three days after the program dates should you wish to extend your stay! 
Additional nights are based on availability and will be accepted at the prevailing guestroom rate.
