2023 David W. Smith Workshop on Malformations and Morphogenesis

This year’s David W. Smith Workshop on Malformations and Morphogenesis format will include a combination of platform presentations, poster sessions and informal discussion sections with a relatively open format. Five focused topics selected based on canvassing previous years’ participants include: 1) Hearing loss syndromes, 2) Mechanisms of dysmorphology in inborn errors of metabolism, 3) Non-coding genetic causes of malformations 4) David W. Smith Worship collaborations, 5) Narrative medicine in Genetics Each day will have an invited speaker, selected on international reputation, open the day with a keynote presentation on one of the special topics. This is typically followed by presentations from submitted abstracts, related to this topic. General sessions, poster presentations and short descriptive observations of new syndromes or new findings in previously defined syndromes including natural history are frequent presentations. Finally, a session dedicated to deciphering challenging cases brought by participants who present them and are discussed by the collective group to provide guidance in the diagnostic evaluation and therapy. Participation, limited to those with an abstract accepted, is typically ~ 140 participants to provide an optimal environment for close interaction of trainees and established faculty to foster a spirit of open discussion and career mentorship. These meetings have created hundreds of collaborative efforts at the clinical and translational interface.

1. Recognize and diagnose disorders of malformation and morphogenesis
2. Formulate approaches towards the management of disorders of malformation and morphogenesis
3. Recognize the mechanistic contributions to syndromic and non-syndromic birth defects

Registration Fees for 2023 are as follows:

·       $1,350 – ATTENDING/FACULTY (Registration fee does NOT include room accommodation)

·       $1,500 – FELLOW/TRAINEE (Registration fee INCLUDES double room accommodation - fellows will be paired with another fellow roommate. If they have not identified a fellow for a roommate one will be assigned.)

·       $750 - SPOUSE/ACCOMPANYING ADULT - 18 yrs. or older (Registration fee includes all meals)

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education to physicians.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (25.25 hours)

All reservations must be accompanied by a first night room deposit or guarantee with a major credit card. In the event a guest wished to cancel a reservation, the deposit is refundable if notice is received 48 hours prior to the day of arrival and a cancellation number is obtained.

Individuals will be responsible for payment of their own lodging.  If you are sharing payment for a shared room, please provide the credit card information for both occupants at the time of making the reservation or please discuss final payment with your roommate.
