Overview
The CHOP Improvement Education Program within the Center for Healthcare Quality and Analytics invites staff to apply for participation in the Spring 2023 offering of the Leading Improvement Course (LIC). Purpose: The Leading Improvement Course (LIC) provides the experience and skills needed for CHOP faculty and staff to initiate and lead improvement projects in their units and departments. In addition to learning the steps and tools of the CHOP Improvement Framework, participants will receive instruction in the history of the quality movement, the theoretical foundations for quality improvement, healthcare financing and strategies for publishing the results of improvement work. Audience: Staff who are designing and leading improvement initiatives in their area. Applicants should have experience leading or overseeing improvement initiatives in their area or should be actively leading an improvement initiative. Open to clinical and nonclinical staff, such as Managers, Directors, Department Quality and Safety Chairs/Champions, etc. Past course participants have included those in the roles of (not all-inclusive list): Business Manager, Manager, Director, Section Head, Program Manager, Division Quality & Safety Leader, Attending Physician and Registered Nurse. Apply with other team member(s): In addition to individual applications, we also support the application of multiple team members working on the same project. Teams that are currently working on or plan to work on a quality improvement initiative are welcome to apply to participate in the same cohort. All team members will need to submit an individual application, but project description should be the same. Course Dates: LIC will take place in the Roberts building over a total of 8 full days. Attendance is required for ALL days of the course, which are March 9 to 10, April 13 to 14, May 11 to 12 and June 8 to 9. Practicum: Participants are required to complete an improvement project to apply theory and methods learned during the course. Project work will be completed outside of the course time, and course participants can work together on a team project. A final report out of project will occur on the last course day. Questions about the course or the application process should be addressed to the Improvement Education Program at [email protected].

Objectives
  1. Describe how to strategically identify improvement opportunities.
  2. Apply the CHOP Improvement Framework and common improvement tools to improvement initiatives.
  3. Analyze data to set and measure improvement goals.
