Overview

PURPOSE AND TARGET AUDIENCE

The increasing number of acutely ill and injured pediatric patients presenting to Emergency Departments and offices requires that emergency physicians, pediatric emergency physicians, pediatricians, family physicians, pediatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants be prepared to assess, diagnose and expertly treat a wide variety of pediatric emergencies. Diagnostic and therapeutic practices continue to evolve, and patient care recommendations and guidelines continue to improve. This course will feature state-of-the-art teaching formats, including evidence-based lectures, a panel discussion, and small group break out sessions in diagnostic reasoning, procedural skills, and resuscitation. Optional experience in telesimulation available for a limited number.

The conference will be held Nov. 11, 14, 18 and 21, 2020.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:



  1. Describe the clinical presentation, diagnostic criteria and treatment options for children with COVID-19 induced multi-system inflammatory syndrome
  2. Elaborate on areas of consensus and controversy in managing pediatric trauma
  3. Describe newer indications and uses for point-of-care ultrasound in the pediatric emergency department
  4. Recognize dermatologic conditions in patients with darker skin complexions
  5. Discuss key aspects of legal and illicit use of marijuana in children
