Overview
Neonatal Healthcare providers are frequently challenged with the safest and most effective medication to choose for their patients who are in the neonatal intensive care unit. This one-day course will provide an overview of medication safety and specific medication updates including indications, dosing, and safety considerations. Ample time is available to share the different perspectives of pharmacists, nurses, APPs, and physicians and increase attention to medication safety.

Objectives
  1. 90% will be able to describe medication safety challenges and prevention strategies in the NICU.
  2. 90% will be able to describe methods to educate staff on principles of medication safety practices.
  3. 90% will identify principles of medication safety to diuretic prescribing in preterm infants
  4. 90% will be able to list interprofessional team communications strategies that enhance medication safety in the Neonatal ICU.
  5. 90% will describe the need for antibiotic stewardship in the NICU.
  6. 90% will recall how effective collaboration impacts patient care during emergency events.
  7. 90% will describe acute treatment of hyperkalemia.
  8. 90% will describe management of hyponatremia with vasopressin.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
