Overview

This virtual course offering will include 6.5 hours of content for the participant to review on their own, each having post module review questions for completion. 

Topics were selected to support the treatment of patients with amplified musculoskeletal pain syndrome and include:

  • Medical evaluation, diagnosis & treatment

  • Role of Psychology in treatment

  • PT/OT examination & evaluation

  • PT/OT intervention planning

  • School support for patients

  • Role of Creative Arts in treatment

  • Research topics in AMPS


Objectives
  1. Describe the various presentations of amplified musculoskeletal pain (AMPS).
  2. Understand key history and exam findings consistent with a diagnosis of AMPS.
  3. Detail appropriate initial psychological assessment and treatment recommendations for patients with AMPS and their families.
  4. Identify psychological components of AMPS and its impact on rehabilitation.
  5. Understand the PT and OT evaluation process and client factors in creating an evidence-based treatment plan.
  6. Implement PT/OT treatment interventions including desensitization and therapeutic activities that progress patients through treatment.
  7. Construct a differential diagnosis of these pain syndromes and their comorbidities.
  8. Summarize current and ongoing research in the topic of AMPS treatment.
  9. Compare and contrast the factors which contribute to success in outpatient therapy; identify when a patient requires referral to intensive therapy.
  10. Understand role of creative arts and social work in the treatment of AMPS.

Registration

The conference will be an asynchronous event.  Course content and the post modules assessments must be completed by May 31, 2026.  The platform will remain open for reviewing modules through July 1, 2026. 

The registration fee is $250 for early registration by January 31, 2026, and $300 on/after February 1, 2026. 

Registration must be received by May 1st, 2026.   This course is appropriate for PTs, OTs, COTAs, and PTAs


Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
