Overview

Welcome to “PEM in Practice,” a dynamic Continuing Medical Education (CME) course that provides healthcare professionals with a unique opportunity to enhance their pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) skills through interactive and innovative learning experiences. This course is taught by nationally recognized faculty from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Boston Children’s Hospital, who bring their expertise and real-world experiences to the forefront of your education.


“PEM in Practice” immerses participants in a hands-on and interactive learning environment. By incorporating state-of-the-art evidence-based lectures, small group discussions, workshops, and simulations, this course ensures that participants gain practical skills and experience in procedural techniques and resuscitation. Through a comprehensive curriculum and emphasis on interactivity, this course distinguishes itself from other CME offerings.


Objectives
  1. Describe approach to the resuscitation of a child in cardiopulmonary arrest based on the most recent PALS guidelines
  2. Elaborate on areas of consensus and controversy in managing pediatric trauma.
  3. Be able to implement new evidence about use of non-invasive ventilation for pediatric patients with bronchiolitis and other respiratory conditions.
  4. Practice an understanding of an pediatric point of care ultrasound and its use in rapid diagnostic evaluation
  5. Recognize patients with emerging infectious diseases presenting to the Emergency Department
  6. Employ reasoned approaches to the evaluation of cardiac emergencies in children.
  7. Recognize important visual clues that help diagnose select pediatric conditions.
  8. Demonstrate physical examination techniques to evaluate common orthopedic complaints.
  9. Demonstrate techniques for performing common and critical pediatric procedures.
  10. Utilize a reasoned approach to the evaluation and management of the ill infant

Registration
The conference will be held in the HUB for clinical collaboration at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The registration fee is $500 for physicians, $300 for trainees and $400 for APPs. The registration fee includes continental breakfast, refreshments, lunch, parking, and syllabus material.

Accreditation
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education to physicians.
