Overview
Primary care providers are often the front-line of identifying and managing depression and suicidality and therefore need skills in the diagnosis and management of these conditions. In this course, we will explore screening and assessment tools, diagnostic criteria, and therapeutic approaches (including CBT and SSRIs). A case-based discussion will help integrate each step into real world clinical scenarios.

Objectives
  1. Describe validated screening and assessment tools used for pediatric depression and suicidality.
  2. Determine the appropriate treatment approach for depression and suicidality based on symptom severity level.
  3. Explore barriers to mental health care in general pediatrics and identify approaches to overcoming these barriers.
  4. Evaluate shared care models for interdisciplinary management of pediatric mental health.
