Dr. Pipan graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, then completed her pediatric residency at University of Minnesota. She practiced general pediatrics in rural West Virginia for five years, then came to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) for fellowship training in Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics. Following fellowship she stayed on as an attending physician at CHOP. She was director of the Developmental Behavioral fellowship program from 2002 to 2008, playing an instrumental role in getting CHOP's program accreditation with ACGME. She remained as co-director of the fellowship program until 2019. Dr. Pipan became clinical director of the Trisomy 21 program at CHOP from the time of its inception in 2003, and is currently program director. She has been co-investigator in several clinical research studies on children with Trisomy 21. She speaks locally, nationally and internationally on Down syndrome, as well as on other topics in development and behavior. In 2023 she was chosen to be a recipient of the the Alan Cohen Master Clinician Award.
