Dr. Nance is the Josephine J. and John M. Templeton, Jr.  Professor of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania where he has had a career long interest in trauma.  Dr. Nance began his medical career in New Orleans at Louisiana State University medical school and would go on to complete his general surgery residency and a critical care fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Finally, Dr. Nance completed his pediatric surgical training at the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia where he is now and attending surgeon, and Division Chief of Pediatric General and Thoracic surgery at the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia and the Director of the Pediatric Trauma Program. Dr. Nance has research interests focused on issues such as pediatric firearm injury, solid organ injury, access to trauma careDr. Nance has held leadership positions in local and regional organizations as well as nationally in the American Pediatric Surgical Association (chair, Trauma Committee), Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (Board Member; chair, Pediatric Trauma Committee), and the American College of Surgeons-Committee on Trauma (Member Executive Committee; chair Quality, Data and Research Committee). Dr. Nance was a founding member and past president of the Pediatric Trauma Society.
