Dr. Chen completed her neurosurgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania and entered into a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at CHOP. She then stayed on as faculty at CHOP where she spends her clinical and research endeavors on neurovascular, trauma, craniofacial surgery.
Dr. Chen played an integral role in promoting CHOP’s first neurocritical care unit and integrating pediatric TBI translational research to the Division of Neurosurgery.
Dr. Chen’s research program focuses on the development of pediatric traumatic brain injury models.; particularly the development of novel treatments, multimodal intraoperative and ICU monitoring. Her large TBI database has generated a significant amount of data in pediatric traumatic brain injury outcomes and treatments based upon clinical data. She has developed a TBI and vascular biobank to evaluate the molecular and serum markers from patients in response to injury (traumatic, stroke, tumor) in order to determine the best targets for potential therapies.
