Amy Olen, PhD: Dr. Olen is a multilingual translator and interpreter with 20 years of experience providing medical and community language access services. She is an associate professor of Translation & Interpreting Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she researches community interpreting and literary translation. Her research focuses on medical interpreter emotional wellness in distressing clinical encounters; interpreter perspectives on clinician and family distress communication; linguicism in health settings; and interventions for improving clinician-interpreter teamwork and communication. Dr. Olen is a contributing translator with the award-winning literary journal, Latin American Literature Today, and she is the translator of the bilingual edition, Luisa Capetillo: escalando la tribuna (Editora Educación Emergente, 2022). Her next book-length translation, Marayrasu: Stories, is a collection of short fiction by Peruvian writer Edgardo Rivera Martínez and is forthcoming in December 2025 (Curbstone Books, Northwestern University Press).
