Bio:

Michael L. Nance, MD is the Josephine J. and John M. Templeton, Jr.  Professor of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. He has had a career long interest in trauma beginning in medical school at Louisiana State University and The Charity Hospital of New Orleans.  This interest was fostered during surgical training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania as did his interest in pediatric surgery.  Dr. Nance completed fellowships in Surgical Critical Care at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Pediatric Surgery at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  Dr. Nance serves as the Director of the Pediatric Trauma Program and a busy academic pediatric general surgeon.  During his academic career, Dr. Nance has focused his research efforts primarily on pediatric trauma care with study of such issues as pediatric firearm injury, solid organ injury, access to trauma care and mild traumatic brain injury.  Dr. Nance has held leadership positions in local and regional organizations as well as nationally in APSA, EAST and the ACS-COT.
