Andrew J Bauer, MD, is a pediatric endocrinologist, a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania and the director of the Thyroid Center at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's. Dr. Bauer’s research interests span across the spectrum of pediatric thyroid disorders, including thyroid hormone production syndromes, thyroid hormone resistance and transport disorders, thyroid nodular disease, thyroid cancer, and familial thyroid tumor syndromes. Within this field, he has published more than 140 manuscripts, chapters and reviews and is a regularly invited lecturer and visiting professor at international meetings and academic institutes. In 2017, Dr. Bauer established the CHOP Advanced Thyroid Cancer Therapeutics program and in 2019 he established a translational science research program to better define the molecular landscape of pediatric thyroid cancer in an effort to improve diagnosis and treatment. In 2020, Dr. Bauer and his team were selected as a CHOP Frontier Program and launched an International Child and Adolescent Thyroid Consortium to expand multicenter collaboration. Dr. Bauer serves as a medical consultant for the Thyroid Cancer Survivors Association, the International DICER1 registry, the PTEN Hamartoma Tumor Syndrome foundation and his program is one of two sites in North America participating in a phase II study of triac to treat patients with MCT8 deficiency. Dr. Bauer maintains active membership in the Endocrine Society, the Pediatric Endocrine Society, and the American Thyroid Association (ATA) where he is currently serving as chair of the ATA pediatric thyroid nodule and thyroid cancer guidelines.
