MARY ELIZABETH FALLAT, M.D.

 

Mary E. Fallat, MD is Professor of Surgery at the University of Louisville and the Director of Surgical Quality at Norton Children’s Hospital where she has been in practice for 33 years. She recently stepped down as Surgeon-in-Chief at Norton Chidlren’s Hospital and Division Director of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Louisville. Dr. Fallat has a long history of service and leadership in Pediatric Surgery and is past President of the American Pediatric Surgical Association, past Chair of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Pediatric Surgery Advisory Council, and past Chair of the Section on Surgery of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). She is the current Vice Chair of the Children’s Surgery Verification Committee for the ACS Optimal Resources for Children’s Surgical Care Program.  Besides surgical quality, her interest areas include access to care, trauma, and emergency medical services (EMS). She recently completed two terms as a member of the National EMS Advisory Council representing the trauma sector, is a consultant to the ACS Committee on Trauma, and recent Vice President of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma. She is the Vice-President Elect of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Fallat has been funded by HRSA as program director for the KY EMS for Children program since 2001. She serves as a trauma advisor to the HRSA Emergency Medical Services Innovation and Improvement Center (EIIC) and to the National Pediatric Readiness Program (NPRP). She is a sub-PI for a recently awarded HRSA grant to develop a national pediatric pandemic network.
