Disclosures: Nothing to disclose

I am currently the Josephine J. and John M. Templeton, Jr.  Professor of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania.   I have had a career long interest in trauma that began in medical school at Louisiana State University and The Charity Hospital of New Orleans. This interest was fostered during surgical training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania as was my interest in caring for children.  These two areas have come together at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where I currently serve as the Director of the Pediatric Trauma Program and am also a busy pediatric general surgeon.  During my academic career, my research efforts have been primarily focused on pediatric trauma care with study of such issues as pediatric firearm injury, solid organ injury, access to trauma care and mild traumatic brain injury.  Prevention has been an integral part of all of these research endeavors.  I have held leadership positions in local and regional organizations as well as nationally in the American Pediatric Surgical Association (chair, Trauma Committee), Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (Board Member; chair, Pediatric Trauma Committee), Pediatric Trauma Society (Board Member; Founding Member) and the American College of Surgeons-Committee on Trauma (Member Executive Committee; chair Quality, Data and Research Committee).  I am eager to bring pediatric surgical/trauma representation to the Council.
