Laura Popma is a Social Worker at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in the Safe Place: Center for Child Protection and Health. Laura works with a multidisciplinary team that provides diagnostic assessments and treatment recommendations for possible victims of child maltreatment. Laura and the Child Protection Team offer assistance and guidance to children and caregivers in understanding the medical and social issues that have prompted involvement in an investigation of suspected child maltreatment.  Laura collaborates routinely with Child Protective Services and Law Enforcement agencies in assisting with child abuse investigations.

Laura received her BSW from West Chester University followed by her MSW from Widener University. Laura has a great deal of experience and expertise in the area of child abuse and neglect, having worked extensively with this population as a social worker in a variety of settings. While attending Widener University, Laura did her graduate school field placement as a Social Work Intern assigned to the Child Protection Program at CHOP and following her graduation from Widener, Laura worked for several months as a per diem social worker in the CHOP Emergency Department/Extended Hours Program. Prior to her current role at CHOP Laura has worked as a Victim Advocate at the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance, foster care social worker with Friends Association in West Chester, PA, and as a case social worker for Delaware County Children and Youth Services.
