Faculty Bio

Dr. Kathie McCans has lived in Havertown, Pennsylvania and is a graduate of West Chester University. She obtained her medical degree at Temple University, School of Medicine in Philadelphia. Her general pediatric residency and pediatric emergency medicine fellowship were completed at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.   She developed expertise in child abuse pediatrics while working in pediatric emergency medicine at The Regional Children’s Hospital at Cooper, collaborating with the CARES Institute in Stratford, New Jersey, becoming board certified in 2009. Dr. McCans returned to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in May, 2018 as the physician executive director of the emergency medicine department.

Dr. McCans has more than 20 years of experience working in pediatric emergency medicine and child abuse pediatrics.  In addition to her clinical work she has a gubernatorial appointment as the chair of the New Jersey Child Fatality Near Fatality Review board.   Dr. McCans’ interest in responding to concerns for human trafficking grew out of her child abuse practice. 

Dr. McCans is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Helfer Society.  She is married and has three daughters.
